Adelaide Hills

“Adelaide HillsThere were vines planted in the Adelaide Hills in the 1870's but due to the perceived and real challenges of cool climate viticulture in the early days most of them were removed by the 1930's. The birth of the Adelaide Hills region as we know it today is 1976 with the establishment of Petaluma. This is a hilly regional located just east of Adelaide in the Mount Lofty Ranges and as such has varying climates, most of it decidedly cool but there are a few warm pockets. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay do exceptionally well here and indeed fruit sourced from the cooler sites finds its way into the production of sparkling wine. Adelaide Hills has developed a reputation for being the bench mark region for Australian Sauvignon Blanc. The style is lively and aromatic with distinct grapefruit and tropical notes and crisp acidity.”
