“CoonawarraAs well as producing world-renowned Cabernet Sauvignon, Coonawarra is the perfect place to experience unique wines and delicious local produce. The terra rossa of Coonawarra is Australia's most famous soil, renowned for its affinity with Cabernet Sauvignon wines.
Coonawarra was first planted in the 1880's but the region really struggled from 1890 to 1945. Most of the wine in those days was distilled into brandy. In the 1930's the government structured a vine pull scheme offering money to convert vineyards to dairy land.

The resurgence of interest started again in the 1950's and now, by any measure Coonawarra is considered to be Australia's greatest Cabernet Sauvignon region. Consistent cloud cover and cooling breezes combine to make it quite cool. The famous crumbly red top soil known as terra rossa. This is a narrow strip of land which sits on top of free draining limestone sub soils which in turn sit over a high water table. All these factors combine to make this region famously suited to Cabernet Sauvignon.

The wines are generally of full of character and finesse. Medium-bodied with classic regional signatures of cassis and min. These wines have tremendous capacity to age.
